Newhouse Backs Bill to Ban Abortions After 20 Weeks

May 14, 2015

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Rep. Dan Newhouse (R-WA) released the following statement on voting yesterday to support passage of H.R. 36, the Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act, which bans abortions after 20 weeks post fertilization, with exceptions to save the life of the mother or in cases of rape or incest.

"I was proud to vote for legislation that reflects our society's highest values. Prohibiting cruel late-term abortions will protect unborn children capable of feeling pain in recognition of the dignity and value of every human life. The passage of today's legislation represents the will of the American people and all who understand that we have a duty to defend those who cannot defend themselves."
