Press Release

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Rep. Newhouse (R-WA) released the following statement after voting in favor of a bipartisan legislative package, S. 47, the Natural Resources Management Act, which included a provision to withdraw 340,000 acres in the Methow Valley from consideration for mining. The legislation passed the House last night in a vote of 363 to 62, and the Senate approved it on February 12, so it will now head to President Trump’s desk to be signed into law.

“Passage of the bipartisan lands package with the Methow Valley provision, which I voted to support, represents a victory for the local community in North Central Washington,” said Rep. Newhouse. “While the community embraces resource development and has a long history of mining, it is also widely recognized that the Methow Headwaters is a natural wonder and is central to the region’s thriving recreational economy. I could not be more pleased that the legislation is headed to President Trump for his signature into law.”
