WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Dan Newhouse (R-WA) released the following statement on President Obama’s veto of H.R. 3762, the Restoring American's Healthcare Freedom Reconciliation Act, which was passed by Congress to repeal major portions of Obamacare and to prohibit federal funding for Planned Parenthood.

“I am disappointed that the President has chosen to disregard the wishes of Americans, who after years of suffering bureaucratic glitches, tax hikes, rising premiums, and cancelled plans have rejected his top-down healthcare law,” said Congressman Newhouse. “The President’s veto has not changed the fact that this is a failed law. Americans deserve a healthcare system that works. They deserve a system where taxpayers are not forced to support Planned Parenthood’s taking of innocent lives. They deserve a President who respects the will of the American people.

“I intend to vote to override this veto, and I hope my colleagues in Congress will join me. I will continue to fight to protect the lives of unborn children and to restore a patient-centered healthcare system.”

In order to override a veto, a two-thirds majority of the House must vote against it, and the Senate requires a majority of 67.
