Press Release

Washington, D.C. – Today, Rep. Dan Newhouse (R-WA) released the following statement after voting ‘no’ on House passage of the Senate amendment to H.R. 240, Department of Homeland Security Appropriations Act for Fiscal Year 2015, to fund the Department of Homeland Security through the end of Fiscal Year 2015:

“I swore an oath to uphold the Constitution, and President Obama’s unilateral actions on immigration, as he repeated 22 times, were not within his Constitutional authority. I have consistently supported full funding for the Department of Homeland Security, and I would have voted today for another short-term funding extension to give time for the House and Senate to work out their differences on the bill, but I could not support a full funding bill that did not deal with the President's unconstitutional overreach. It is Congress’ responsibility to make laws, and Congress must now work to pass long-term legislation that fixes our broken immigration system and secures our nation’s borders.”
