WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Rep. Dan Newhouse (R-WA) released the following statement on the President’s budget request for Fiscal Year 2016.

“Every American family understands that a smart budget should plan for the future by saving and not spending more than it takes in, which is exactly the opposite of what the President’s proposal would do by nearly half a trillion dollars. The President’s proposal includes higher taxes and more government spending, and it fails to address our long-term national debt. Feeding Washington D.C.’s appetite for ever more government is the same top-down approach that has failed to create higher-paying jobs for the middle class. Rather than exceeding spending caps, the budget should put us on the path to fiscal balance and gradual elimination of our national debt—already at a staggering $18 trillion. The President’s proposal today would be another step in the wrong direction. We owe our children and grandchildren a return to fiscal responsibility, which is why I have cosponsored legislation to require a balanced budget.”
