“Encouraging News for America’s Farmers”
Newhouse praises preliminary U.S.-Mexico NAFTA deal
Sunnyside, WA – U.S. Representative Dan Newhouse (R-WA) today released the following statement on President Trump's announcement of a preliminary North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) deal with Mexico:
"President Trump's announcement of a preliminary agreement to update the U.S.-Mexico portion of NAFTA is encouraging news for America's farmers and exporters who rely on access to our trading partners' markets," said Rep. Newhouse. "While details of a final deal remain, the movement toward zero tariffs on agriculture products, increasing transparency to reduce trade distorting policies, and decreasing non-tariff trade barriers to ensure sanitary and phytosanitary measures are based on science will strengthen the economic relationship with our Southern neighbor. I look forward to seeing similar progress with Canada so that a modernized NAFTA agreement can fairly reflect the interests of all."
