Newhouse Announces Appropriations Subcommittee Assignments for 116th Congress
Newhouse will continue to serve on key appropriations subcommittees
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Representative Dan Newhouse (R-WA) announced that he will continue to serve on the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Energy and Water Development and Related Agencies, the Subcommittee on Homeland Security, and the Subcommittee on the Legislative Branch. Rep. Newhouse previously served on all three subcommittees in the 115th Congress.
"I am very pleased to continue to have the honor to serve on Appropriations subcommittees with jurisdiction on vital interests for Central Washington," said Rep. Newhouse. "These subcommittees will continue to allow me to work to reform to our broken immigration system and improve agriculture labor programs, to provide strong funding levels for Hanford cleanup, to provide support for critical water infrastructure projects like the Yakima Basin Integrated Plan, and to fund research at the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory. I look forward to serving under the leadership of Ranking Member Kay Granger to steward federal spending on behalf of American taxpayers."
Ranking Member Kay Granger (R-TX): "Rep. Newhouse brings the unique perspective of a Pacific Northwest farmer and small businessman to the Appropriations Committee and has been an active advocate for America's agriculture. I am glad to welcome him on the team as we exercise Congress' power of the purse to fix the appropriations process and advance conservative values in the 116th Congress."
The Subcommittee on Energy and Water Development, and Related Agencies appropriates funding for the Department of Energy, the Department of the Interior, Bonneville Power Administration, the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission, Nuclear Regulatory Commission, and other agencies. Additionally, Energy and Water Development oversees spending for federal water projects and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, the Department of Interior, and the Bureau of Reclamation, which are critical for the next phase of the Yakima Basin Integrated Plan and irrigation in the West.
The Subcommittee on Homeland Security appropriates all funding for the Department of Homeland Security and its agencies. Rep. Newhouse has worked on this subcommittee to improve the nation's broken immigration system.
The Subcommittee on the Legislative Branch is responsible for federal appropriations for the offices of Members of the House of Representatives, the support agencies of Congress, security and police forces, services for visitors, and Capitol operations and maintenance.
The House Appropriations Committee exercises jurisdiction over all federal discretionary spending. The House Appropriations Committee is designated as an exclusive committee, with members limited to serving on the panel and generally not assigned to serve on additional committees.
