Newhouse Applauds Passage of Conference Report for National Defense Authorization Act

Legislation Includes Largest Pay Increase for Troops in Eight Years; Funding Authorization for Hanford Cleanup and Fire Station at Yakima Training Center

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Rep. Dan Newhouse (R-WA) today released the following statement after voting in favor of the Conference Report to accompany H.R. 2810 - National Defense Authorization Act. The legislation authorizes funding for national defense and national security programs of the Department of Energy and now heads to President Trump for signature into law.

“It is our solemn responsibility in Congress to provide for the national defense, and I was proud to support this legislation to invest in our military,” said Rep. Newhouse. “This legislation authorizes the largest increase in pay for our troops in eight years and equips the Armed Forces to do its job on our behalf. NDAA authorizes vital investment for Hanford cleanup to fulfill the moral and legal obligation of the federal government to fulfill its promise to our community. I am pleased that this legislation also includes authorization to improve firefighting capabilities at the Yakima Training Center.”

The conference report for NDAA authorizes funding at $755,563,000 for the Richland Operations Office (RL), an increase from the President’s Budget Request of $716,192,000, and $1,504,311,000 for the Office of River Protection (ORP).
