March 12, 2019

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Rep. Dan Newhouse (R-WA) released the following statement after attending the Oval Office signing ceremony during which President Trump signed a bipartisan legislative package, S. 47, the John D. Dingell, Jr. Conservation, Management, and Recreation Act, into law. S. 47 included a provision to withdraw 340,000 acres in the Methow Valley from consideration for mining. The legislation passed the House last night in a vote of 363 to 62, and the Senate approved it on February 27.

"President Trump's signature of this legislation will preserve the natural beauty of the Methow Valley for generations to come," said Rep. Newhouse. "This was a community-led effort on a priority for North Central Washington and the region's thriving recreational economy. I was proud to support this legislation to protect the natural wonder of the Methow Headwaters."
