Newhouse: Biden Administration Alone Is Responsible for Spiking Oil Prices

March 9, 2022

We have the power to achieve our own secure energy future

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Yesterday, Rep. Dan Newhouse (R-WA) participated in a Special Order with the House Energy Action Team to highlight the hypocrisy of the Biden Administration’s rhetoric on high energy prices and the impacts these record prices are having on Americans across the country.

Rep. Newhouse has consistently led on American energy policy, working to support domestic production to restore American energy dominance and drive down prices, such as with the recently introduced American Energy Independence from Russia Act.

Rep. Newhouse’s remarks can be found in full below:

Madam Speaker,

For months, the Biden Administration has been using the excuse that ‘global markets are complex’ and there are dynamics ‘out of our control’ that have led to the highest average gas price since 2008 and spiking global oil prices.

This, Madam Speaker, is disingenuous at best, but really – it’s simply not true.

As my colleagues in the Congressional Western Caucus and House Energy Action Team have been saying: We have the power to achieve our own secure energy future. In fact, we achieved energy independence just a few short years ago. But with President Biden and his Administration at the helm, we’ve thrown that security out the window.

Don’t believe the President’s revisionist history by blaming Vladimir Putin for high gas prices.

You can be sure the cancellation of the Keystone XL Pipeline, the moratorium on oil and gas leasing on federal lands, the lack of action on the offshore leasing program, and the commitment by this President and his cronies to make American energy producers obsolete in just a few years’ time – yes, all of these are reasons to hold this President responsible for the burden now placed on the American people.

These rising prices started long before this conflict, and we will continue to hold this Administration accountable for the burden they have placed on the American people.
