February 28, 2017
Press Release

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Representatives Dan Newhouse (R-WA), Kathy Castor (D-FL), Frank Lucas (R-OK), and Jim Costa (D-CA), were joined by The Fertilizer Institute President Chris Jahn to kick off the Congressional Fertilizer Caucus today on Capitol Hill. Reps. Newhouse, Castor Lucas and Costa are Caucus Co-Chairs.

“I look forward to working with my colleagues from both sides of the aisle and across the country to support the contribution of fertilizer to the agriculture economy,” said Rep. Newhouse. “Fertilizers add $155 billion to the U.S. economy and support nearly half a million U.S. jobs, and this Caucus will hone in on ways to support this integral factor of food production.”

Rep. Lucas: “I am excited to serve as a Co-Chair on this newly formed caucus. I look forward to using this caucus as a platform to educate my fellow members of Congress about the important role fertilizer plays in providing the world with a safe and adequate food supply.”

“The Fertilizer Institute (TFI) thanks Congressman Dan Newhouse (R-WA) for stepping up to serve as Co-Chairman of the Congressional Fertilizer Caucus,” said TFI President Chris Jahn. “Commercial fertilizers feed the crops that feed the world. We also play an important role in state economies. In Washington State, our industry accounts for 1,924 direct jobs and over $1 billion in direct economic impact. Congressman Newhouse is a proven leader with a deep background in agriculture.  We look forward to working with him in support of the Caucus.”
