Newhouse Celebrates Jaramillo Family as “Angels in Adoption” for National Adoption Month

November 1, 2016

SUNNYSIDE – Rep. Dan Newhouse (R-WA) recognized Sunnyside residents Nellie and Frank Jaramillo with the 2016 Congressional Coalition on Adoption Institute’s “Angels in Adoption” award. November is National Adoption Month, and Rep. Newhouse honored the Jaramillos for their outstanding advocacy of adoption and foster care issues.

“For their commitment as foster parents who have also made the step to open their home by adopting children, Nellie and Frank Jaramillo have been outstanding Angels in Adoption,” said Rep. Newhouse. “We celebrate the Jaramillos, and I am proud to recognize this local family for providing a loving home for children in our community. I hope their story will be an inspiration to other families in Central Washington considering becoming foster or adoptive parents.”

Nellie and Frank Jaramillo adopted three siblings on November 20th, 2015. After all four of their biological children left home, Nellie and Frank decided to apply to be foster parents. Nellie had previously dedicated her time to transporting children between their foster homes and their biological parents. She decided she wanted to do more for the children in her community and became a foster parent. Nellie and Frank have fostered many children in the past, and many of them now have children of their own who know Nellie and Frank as simply Grandma and Grandpa.

The Congressional Coalition on Adoption Institute (CCAI) is a non-profit organization that works to raise awareness about the needs of children without families and to remove policy barriers that hinder children from knowing the love and support a family provides. CCAI’s Angels in Adoption initiative provides an opportunity for Members of Congress to honor an individual or entity from their district which has made an extraordinary contribution on behalf of children in need of homes.

CCAI is a 501(c)3 nonpartisan organization dedicated to raising awareness about the tens of thousands of orphans and foster children in the United States and the millions of orphans around the world in need of permanent, safe and loving homes through adoption.
