Newhouse Honors True Family as 2021 Angels in Adoption

WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Rep. Dan Newhouse (R-WA) recognized Yakima residents Pat and Sonia True as Central Washington's 2021 Angels in Adoption. The Congressional Coalition on Adoption Institute (CCAI)'s Angels in Adoption program honors families, individuals, and organizations making extraordinary contributions to adoption, permanency, and welfare. The True's were nominated by Rep. Newhouse to receive this honor.

"Pat and Sonia have, time and again, opened up their home to those in need," said Rep. Newhouse. "They have provided a sanctuary for children to heal from trauma, mothers to recover from abuse, and families to come together. The True's serve as an inspirational example of how, even in the darkest of times, there is always hope. They are angels who truly exemplify the family values we hold dear in Central Washington."

Over the last several years, the True's have offered their home and care to a number of families in need, outside of foster care or other state-run systems. They have had custody of several children, four of whom live with them today. These children come from backgrounds of generational poverty, chronic neglect, gang affiliation, drug addiction, absent and/or incarcerated parents. The True's not only offer their home, but they also assist other Central Washington families in overcoming challenges with the hope of bringing families back together. In the last 5 years, the True's have opened their home to more than 20 children, ranging in ages 2 months to 17 years.

The Congressional Coalition on Adoption Institute (CCAI) is a non-profit organization that works to raise awareness about the needs of children without families and to remove policy barriers that hinder children from knowing the love and support a family provides. CCAI's Angels in Adoption initiative provides an opportunity for Members of Congress to honor an individual or entity from their district which has made an extraordinary contribution on behalf of children in need of homes.
