Newhouse: Inslee’s Refusal to Work With Local Leaders is Failing Central Washington
Governor’s unscientific restrictions lead to $3 million economic loss
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Rep. Dan Newhouse (R-WA) released the following statement after Governor Inslee's inaction led to the cancellation of the Water Follies' 2021 HAPO Air Show and Columbia Cup:
"Governor Inslee has once again failed our region with his unscientific restrictions. The Water Follies is an event that Central Washingtonians look forward to every year, and shutting down an outdoor event that is taking place months in the future is a slap in the face to local leaders, healthcare workers, and business owners who have worked for over a year to keep our communities healthy and distribute vaccines to thousands of Tri-Cities residents," said Rep. Newhouse.
He continued, "The loss of over $3 million to our local economy is one that will be deeply felt by our businesses that are struggling to recover, and I am disappointed that Governor Inslee's office was unwilling to work with our local officials to make this outdoor event safe for our communities. If ‘science is back,' it is past time the Governor follow the lead of states across the nation in recognizing our progress and lifting these burdensome restrictions."
