Newhouse Rebukes Biden Plan to Vaccinate Terrorists Before America’s Seniors and First Responders

February 2, 2021

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Rep. Newhouse (R-WA) joined his colleagues to cosponsor H. Res. 81, a resolution to oppose any plans by the U.S. Department of Defense to deliver COVID-19 vaccines to prisoners at the Guantanamo Bay detention facility (GITMO) until all Americans have had the opportunity to be vaccinated.

"It is unconscionable that President Biden would suggest that terrorists should receive this vaccine before frontline healthcare workers, seniors, teachers, and other American citizens," said Rep. Newhouse. "This resolution offers a clear rebuke of this misguided and absurd policy, and it makes clear that Congress will not tolerate such disrespect of the American people."

The resolution is offered in response to an order from the Biden administration to offer COVID-19 vaccinations to detainees at GITMO before hundreds of millions of American citizens. The Department of Defense paused the plan for further review amidst bipartisan criticism.
