WASHINGTON, D.C. – Rep. Dan Newhouse (R-WA) today released the following statement after voting for H.R. 2028, the Further Continuing and Security Assistance Appropriations Act, 2017, which funds the federal government through April, 2017.

“This continuing resolution gives the incoming administration of President-elect Trump the time it has indicated that it needs to transition and have a greater say in the appropriations process,” said Rep. Newhouse. “Under typical circumstances a short-term CR is far from ideal, but the election has upended the political landscape for the upcoming year and it is reasonable to give the new administration time to work with us to craft a responsible spending plan. This legislation also paves the way for congressional approval of Gen. James N. Mattis, a Tri-Citian, as Secretary of Defense. I look forward to making progress on Central Washington’s priorities and reining in government spending on conservative terms.”
