Newhouse Statement on Passage of the Supplemental Appropriations Act

May 10, 2019

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Rep. Dan Newhouse (R-WA) released the following statement after voting to support H.R. 2157, the Supplemental Appropriations Act, to provide emergency funding and relief to victims of the 2018 and 2019 hurricanes, wildfires, typhoons, tornados, volcanic activity, snowstorms, flooding, and other disasters. H.R. 2157 passed by a vote of 257-150 and will now head to the Senate for approval.

"This disaster funding is overdue," said Rep. Newhouse. "Last December, I voted to support disaster funding, but the Senate failed to send the package to the President's desk. For several months, families, veterans and servicemembers, farmers, and businesses have continued to struggle to recover from natural disasters and other emergencies. Not only will this bill help communities rebuild after devastating wildfires and hurricanes, but it will also provide relief for Central Washington farmers – including cherry growers, whose iconic Washington crops are threatened and damaged by retaliatory tariffs."
