Newhouse Statement on Short-Term Continuing Resolution
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Rep. Dan Newhouse (R-WA) released the following statement after voting to support H.R. 8319, the Continuing Appropriations Act, a spending bill that funds the government through December 11, 2020:
"A short-term funding solution is never ideal, but this Continuing Resolution provides for many of Central Washington's priorities," said Rep. Newhouse. "I'm glad to see Democrat leadership listened to the outcries from both sides of the aisle and included critical agriculture provisions like mandatory programs for conservation, child nutrition, risk management, and wildfire recovery to help our farmers and ranchers continue their essential work. The legislation also includes a provision I worked to include to ensure we can retain our Hanford workforce and the extension of important health programs our communities rely on, including Community Health Centers and Teaching Health Center programs. As an Appropriator, I believe Congress must do its job and pass the full appropriations bills, and as negotiations proceed, I will continue to advocate for responsible federal spending that will meet the needs of our communities and empower Central Washington to recover from the COVID-19 pandemic."
