Newhouse Votes Against Tax Increase on Central Washington Families

August 12, 2022

WASHINGTON, D.C. –– Today, Rep. Dan Newhouse (R-WA) released the following video statement before voting against H.R. 5376, the poorly-named Inflation Reduction Act. This legislation would raise taxes, expand the IRS, and allow the government to impose price controls on drugs, which will result in less innovation and fewer cures and treatments made available to Americans who need them.

“It is inconceivable that my colleagues on the other side of the aisle can stand behind a package that is so clearly detrimental to the American people while lying about the climate and economic benefits it will provide,” said Rep. Newhouse. “I am adamantly opposed to this bill and will vote no while continuing to work on solutions that will provide actual relief to the American people like the Gas Prices Relief Act to lower the cost of gas and groceries, the Farm Workforce Modernization Act to ensure a legal and reliable workforce for our agriculture producers, and the Lower Costs More Cures Act to lower out-of-pocket health care costs for patients without sacrificing innovation of new cures and treatments on the market.”
