Rep. Newhouse Statement on Resignation of Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives Director

March 20, 2015

Washington, D.C. – Today, Rep. Dan Newhouse (R-WA) released the following statement after the announcement that Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) Director B. Todd Jones will step down at the end of the month:

"The recent backdoor attempt to restrict the Second Amendment by banning popular rifle ammunition was just one symptom of bureaucratic overreach at ATF under the Obama Administration. I hope that the Administration has finally heard the message of the American people that efforts to infringe on the constitutional right to bear arms are unacceptable."

Earlier this month, Rep. Newhouse joined House Judiciary Committee Chairman Bob Goodlatte (R-VA) and colleagues in a bipartisan letter challenging ATF's proposed rule change that would have banned civilian use of M855 5.56 x 45mm or "green tip" ammunition.
