Washington Council on International Trade Names Newhouse “Hero of Trade”

March 14, 2017

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Washington Council on International Trade (WCIT) awarded U.S. Representative Dan Newhouse (R-WA) with the 2017 Washington Trade Hero of the Year Award at the annual Washington Trade Conference.

"The true heroes are the men and women in our state who wake up every morning to produce and sell Washington products on the international market and create jobs here at home," said Rep. Newhouse. "I am honored by this award, and I am grateful for WCIT's work to promote trade competitiveness on behalf of our state – where success is measured by the 40% of jobs tied to trade and economic growth. I am proud to support the critical role that trade plays in supporting opportunity in Central Washington."

"WCIT is honored to present Representative Dan Newhouse with 2017's Trade Hero Award," said Lori Otto Punke, WCIT's President. "Representative Newhouse came to Congress with a wealth of knowledge about the importance of Washington's global competitiveness. A third-generation Yakima farmer and businessman, he worked tirelessly to promote the Trade Promotion Authority, the Trans-Pacific Partnership, and a fully-functioning EX-IM Bank. We're proud to honor a leader with such thoughtful consideration of local businesses, their employees, and Washington residents that depend upon a flourishing economy."
