Newhouse Calls for Peace on Two-Year Anniversary of October 7 Attacks

October 7, 2025

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Rep. Dan Newhouse (WA-04) released the following statement on the two-year anniversary of Hamas' attack on Israel on October 7, 2023.

"Two years ago, Hamas committed the deadliest attack on the Jewish community since the Holocaust. More than 1,200 Israelis were murdered, and over 250 taken hostage. Today, Hamas still has 48 hostages in Gaza with 20 of them presumed to be alive.

President Trump is working to secure a ceasefire, release all hostages who remain in captivity, and put an end to the death and destruction we have witnessed during this war.

I implore the administration to ensure Hamas accepts the full peace deal, and that they are never again capable of carrying out such an atrocious act of violence."

Background

On October 7, 2023, Hamas murdered more than 1,200 innocent men, women, and children, including 46 Americans, in the most brutal terrorist attack in Israel’s history. Alongside these killings, Hamas took 254 hostages, among them 12 Americans.

To this day, 48 hostages remain in Hamas captivity, including the remains of two American citizens.

The Trump Administration is actively working to reach a peace agreement. Those negotiations are ongoing as of today.
