Newhouse Criticizes Biden Administration’s Hypocritical Border Policy
President Biden has placed every American community at risk
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Rep. Dan Newhouse (R-WA) released the following statement after the Biden Administration announced that it is terminating Title 42. Title 42 allows the U.S. to turn away migrants at the border on public health grounds.
“The Biden Administration has single-handedly created a border crisis because of their refusal to enforce current laws. Now, by rolling back Title 42, they are removing one of our last defenses and moving us closer to becoming an open-border country.
While it’s true that we are recovering from the COVID-19 pandemic, the Biden Administration is cherry-picking when to acknowledge this and failing to replace these crucial lines of defense. At the same time they’re lifting the Title 42 authority—on the grounds that the pandemic is over—they are attempting to ram a billion-dollar relief package through Congress in the name of said pandemic.
Today’s irresponsible rollback of the Title 42 public health authority will only exacerbate the influx of migrants across our southern border. Our border agents are overwhelmed and do not have the support they need to secure our border, and this puts every American community at risk while cartels and human traffickers continue to profit.
To add insult to injury, not only is the Biden Administration welcoming illegal immigrants into this country with open arms and an open pocketbook, but it is doing so while actively blocking legal, essential workers from entering this country to work on our farms and in our fields. This is hypocritical, irresponsible, and puts our food supply chain at risk.
President Biden must reverse these dangerous policies immediately and start securing our border. The safety and security of the American people depends on it.”
