WASHINGTON, D.C. – Rep. Dan Newhouse (R-WA) joined 143 Republican colleagues in cosponsoring H. Res. 607, a resolution condemning President Biden for deficient planning and failed execution of the U.S. withdrawal from Afghanistan and calling on him to conduct a multi-agency accounting of resources left behind and report to Congress on intelligence gaps as well as committing to maintaining the evacuation operation for as long as necessary.

“Under President Biden’s version of leadership, the U.S. Embassy in Afghanistan was forced to close as the Taliban converged on Kabul while the interpreters and Afghan soldiers who aided U.S. troops for years were left behind,” said Rep. Newhouse. “Taliban leaders are actively seeking out American allies, and women throughout the country – who only recently gained basic human rights and education and who have only just begun to recover from the effects of the Taliban’s repressive regime – are forced into hiding. President Biden alone is responsible for the situation in Afghanistan, and ensuring our citizens and allies are safely evacuated is the bare minimum of his responsibilities as Commander-in-Chief.”
