Newhouse Introduces Legislation to Block Biden Administration From Paying Off Illegal Immigrants
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Rep. Dan Newhouse (R-WA) released the following statement after joining Rep. Tom McClintock (R-CA) and 145 colleagues in introducing the Illegal Immigrant Payoff Prohibition Act of 2021. This legislation will prevent the Attorney General from making settlement payments to individuals and families who entered the United States illegally. It is a direct response to reports that the Biden Administration is proposing to pay as much as $450,000 per person to compensate migrant families that unlawfully entered the United States and were separated at the border.
"The Biden Administration is now openly advocating for individuals to not only cross our border, but to be paid over 13 times the median American income for doing so," said Rep. Newhouse. "It is completely unacceptable for this Administration—whose policies created this border crisis—to signal to the rest of the world that we are no longer a nation that enforces our laws. The perpetuation and exacerbation of this border crisis lands squarely on their shoulders."
