WASHINGTON, D.C. – Rep. Dan Newhouse (R-WA) released the following statement after voting against H.R. 3877, the Bipartisan Budget Act of 2019:

“Our national debt is out of control, and we cannot continue to kick this can down the road,” said Rep. Newhouse. “I have been in Congress for nearly five years now, and this is the third time we have voted to abandon our fiscal responsibility and increase spending. Our economy is the best it has been in decades. We should be leveraging that success to decrease our spending, eliminate our debt, and improve the economic outlook for our future generations. As the branch with the sole responsibility to fund our federal government, Congress must make some tough decisions to restore fiscal discipline. I voted against this budget deal that would increase our national debt by nearly $2 trillion because I don’t believe this is the right decision for Central Washington or for the United States.”
