Newhouse Statement on McNary Shoreline Report to Congress
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Rep. Dan Newhouse (R-WA) today released the following statement after the Secretary of the Army provided the report to Congress on the acquisition of the McNary Shoreline in Central Washington.
“There is still work to do to ensure a transfer is done properly, with all necessary information and documentation on the land in question,” said Rep. Newhouse. “The release of this report, as required by law, is a positive and necessary step forward for the possible re-conveyance of this property and ensuring broad community support.”
Background: The 2017 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) legislation included language directing the Secretary of the Army to provide a report to the congressional defense committees on the process by which the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (Corps) acquired certain properties, such as the McNary Shoreline, along the Columbia River. The report was required to include the specific legal documentation detailing how, when, and at what cost the properties were acquired by the Corps. The 2017 NDAA report text reflected Rep. Newhouse’s McNary Shoreline Army Corps Report amendment. The 2017 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) conference report was signed into law in December, 2016.
