WASHINGTON, D.C. – Rep. Dan Newhouse (R-WA) released the following statement on voting today to support passage of H.R. 7, the No Taxpayer Funding for Abortion and Abortion Insurance Full Disclosure Act of 2017, which Rep. Newhouse cosponsored. H.R. 7 would make the Hyde Amendment, a longstanding prohibition on taxpayer funding for abortions through government programs, permanent and apply government-wide. The legislation also requires full disclosure of the extent to which any health insurance plan on the Affordable Care Act exchange provides for abortion procedures.

“The Hyde Amendment is a critical provision of law that has long protected American taxpayers from being coerced into funding abortion,” said Rep. Newhouse. “Instead of passing it annually as an amendment, this legislation makes it permanent to reaffirm that taxpayers will not pay for the taking of the lives of unborn children. I am also pleased that this legislation ensures Americans have all the information they need so that they can select insurance plans that conform to their conscience.”
