WASHINGTON, D.C.  – Today, Rep. Dan Newhouse (R-WA) issued the following statement on the Supreme Court’s 6-3 decision in King v. Burwell:

“I am disappointed that with today’s ruling, the Supreme Court’s effort to rescue Obamacare from its own text has trumped the rule of law. The plain language of Obamacare referred only to exchanges ‘established by the State,’ and the Court’s revision to the law sets an alarming precedent. The Constitution clearly grants Congress, not the Judicial Branch or the Executive Branch, the responsibility for crafting legislation. Obamacare has amounted to the federal government micromanaging our health care system, resulting in cancelled health insurance plans, rising costs, and broken promises to the American people. Today’s ruling further highlights the need for Congress to move forward with solutions that repeal this fundamentally broken law, and I will continue to fight to empower patients with their health care decisions.”
