House funding legislation approved in committee includes Newhouse language to stop forced spill order at Pacific Northwest dams; provides support for Yucca Mountain

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Rep. Dan Newhouse (R-WA) released the following statement on Hanford funding levels proposed by the House Committee on Appropriations for Fiscal Year 2019 and the strong commitment made to the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory. Rep. Newhouse previously announced that this legislation includes his language to stop the forced spill order at lower Snake and Columbia River dams. The legislation approved by the Committee also included a provision to prevent the privatizing of the Bonneville Power Administration.

"I am pleased that the legislation approved by the Committee today provides strong support for Hanford cleanup and the mission of Pacific Northwest National Laboratory," said Rep. Newhouse. "The legislation also provides funds to continue the license application for Yucca Mountain, which is by statute the nation's sole nuclear repository for nuclear defense waste and spent nuclear fuel. As this bill moves to the entire House, I will continue advocating for the federal government to fulfill its obligation to the people of Central Washington to complete this cleanup job while ensuring safety for workers."
