Rep. Newhouse Statement on Appointment to House Committee on Rules
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Rep. Dan Newhouse (R-WA) released the following statement after his appointment to serve on the House Committee on Rules, chaired by Rep. Pete Sessions (R-TX).
"It is an honor to serve on the House Committee on Rules, and I welcome this opportunity to bring Central Washington's perspective to the legislative procedure of the House," said Rep. Newhouse. "Serving on the Committee on Rules will allow the Fourth District to have a voice in debate on every piece of legislation that moves to the House floor. I look forward to working with Chairman Sessions and my colleagues on the Committee to ensure consideration of conservative solutions."
The Rules Committee is one of the oldest standing committees in Congress, and it has jurisdiction over every piece of legislation that is brought up on the House floor for consideration. Rep. Newhouse's predecessor, Doc Hastings, also served on the Rules Committee. Rep. Newhouse will be the only freshman and sole U.S. House Member from a West Coast state on the Rules Committee in the 114th Congress.
In order to serve on the Rules Committee, Rep. Newhouse will relinquish his current seat on the House Committee on Science, Space, and Technology. Rep. Newhouse continues to serve on the House Committee on Agriculture and House Committee on Natural Resources.
