No Room for the CCP on American Soil

February 26, 2025
Weekly Columns and Op-Eds

As the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) deepens its roots in the United States and around the world, Congress must strongly respond and defend our sovereignty. The Trump administration has implemented a strong position on the efforts of our greatest adversary. In the interest of putting America first and securing our domestic supply chains, we must prioritize protecting American land from the CCP and ensuring we have a comprehensive understanding of which foreign entities are purchasing U.S. farmland. Failure to do so puts our food security and national security at great risk.

As a long-time advocate on this important issue, I am glad to see the new administration is taking it seriously. Just last week, Secretary Brooke Rollins, recently confirmed to lead the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), publicly announced that finding a federal solution to keep the CCP from buying critical U.S. farmland, especially land near national security sites, is at the “very, very top of the list” of priorities for USDA.

That is why this week I am reintroducing vital legislation on this issue. The Protecting American Agriculture from Foreign Adversaries Act of 2025, which passed the House of Representatives last year with bipartisan support, adds the Secretary of Agriculture to the Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States (CFIUS) and empowers USDA with the authority to review land purchases by foreign entities. CFIUS is an intergovernmental agency tasked with tracking foreign investment in the U.S. and protecting our supply chains from national security threats. My goal is for USDA to have a seat at the table to ensure farmland is not being sold to entities or individuals with ties to our greatest geopolitical adversary.

Another piece of legislation I will introduce, the No American Land for Communist China Act, addresses the real threat posed by the CCP on our national security sites by prohibiting the purchase of land adjacent to federally owned land. As we continue to see attempts by the CCP to encroach on these sites, such as the case with a corn mill plant in North Dakota and the Kennedy Space Center in Florida, ensuring they cannot plant roots near federal land protects our national security interests here at home.

It is incumbent upon us in Congress and the Trump administration to act swiftly on this. With an appetite by both branches of government to crack down on the CCP, I look forward to leading new efforts to protect American landowners, farmers, and our national food security.
