Agriculture
As a third-generation farmer, I understand how important agriculture is for families, jobs, and trade in Central Washington. Our district’s farmers and producers grow the highest quality hay, wheat and more than 300 specialty crops such as potatoes, cherries, hops, apples, mint, and wine grapes. Blessed with the conditions to produce such a diverse range of crops, Washington shares its natural abundance with the world, playing the role of “international supermarket.”
As a member of the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Agriculture I am fighting to protect that reputation by bringing the voices of Central Washington farmers to Congress. I am proud to have sponsored legislation that puts farmers first, boosts our local economies, and ensures a stable, reliable, and legal agriculture workforce.
I am a staunch advocate for a strong Farm Bill that promotes American farmers and ensures the long-term success of America’s agriculture industry and am against draconian measures and initiatives like the death tax and WOTUS regulations that puts the future of family farms at risk.

In the fight against hunger, the United States has been the global leader in delivering much needed aid for decades. For nearly 70 years the Food for Peace program within the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) has successfully fed over four billion people in more than 150 countries with American agriculture products. With the recent decision by the Trump administration to freeze all funds for USAID to examine and identify waste, fraud, and abuse, my colleagues and I introduced legislation to move the Food for Peace program from USAID to the U.S.

As fentanyl continues to ravage communities across the United States, the Trump Administration has taken measures to ensure Canada, Mexico, and China are doing their due diligence to address this crisis. With illicit drugs flowing over the southern border from Mexican cartels, serious security gaps at our northern border, and China manufacturing fentanyl precursors, the tariffs announced by the administration serve as a reminder of the responsibility these nations have in mitigating the crisis.
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Rep. Dan Newhouse (R-WA) introduced the Agriculture Export Promotion Act of 2025 to increase funding to the Market Access Program (MAP) and Foreign Market Development Program (FMD) and help American farmers compete in global markets.
This week marks the beginning of the 119th Congress and just the third time in the last 70 years that Republicans have controlled both chambers of Congress and the White House. Over the past four years, we have had an administration that sidestepped Congress and wielded the executive branch to tighten the federal government’s grip on taxpayers, small businesses, farmers and ranchers, and countless other industries while pushing inflation to record levels.
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, the House Committee on Agriculture announced Rep. Dan Newhouse (WA-04) will rejoin the committee in the 119th Congress. He served on the committee in his first term in Congress.
