SUNNYSIDE, WA – Rep. Dan Newhouse (R-WA) today honored the student winners of the Fourth Congressional District App Challenge. Cinthia Santiago Villanueva and Esmeralda Lopez, students at Harrison Middle School, won the challenge with an app they designed called the Agricultural Job Finder.

Collin Peterson (D-MN) led 52 other Members to introduce H.R. 4520, a bipartisan resolution recognizing the legacy of Justin Smith Morrill, the founder of the land-grant university system, by posthumously awarding him the Congressional Gold Medal.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Following an announcement that the REC Silicon plant in Moses Lake will shut down production, U.S. Senators Murray and Cantwell, and U.S. Congressman Dan Newhouse (WA-04), today called on trade representatives to end the solar trade war between the U.S. and China.

No workers will be laid off at this time—they will instead shift to focus on maintenance.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Rep. Dan Newhouse (R-WA) was presented this week with the 2015 National Wheat Advocate Award by the National Association of Wheat Growers (NAWG). The Wheat Advocate Award is given annually to members of Congress who have demonstrated outstanding support for the wheat industry. Rep. Newhouse was presented with the award during the Wheat Industry Winter Conference in Washington, D.C. by Brett Blankenship, a Washtucna, WA wheat grower and president of NAWG.

Rep. Dan Newhouse (R-WA) announced that he has nominated 16 students across Central Washington for consideration to attend U.S. military academies including West Point, the Naval Academy, and the Air Force Academy. The nominations followed an interview process that included Rep. Newhouse’s military academy advisory board, and the final determination for admittance will be made by the respective academies. The honor of attending a service academy comes with the obligation and commitment to serve in the military for a minimum of five years upon graduation.
