Dan Newhouse (R-WA) released the following statement after the House approved his amendment to prevent the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) from expanding regulations under the Resources Conservation and Recovery Act of 1976 to target farmers, livestock producers, and dairies. The amendment would prohibit funding for the EPA to issue new regulations under the Solid Waste Disposal Act (42 U.S.C. 6901 et seq.) that apply to animal feeding operations. Rep. Newhouse's amendment was agreed to by a voice vote and included in H.R.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Yesterday, Rep. Dan Newhouse (R-WA) welcomed Katie Patterson, winner of the 2015 Congressional Art Competition for high school students in the Fourth District, to the U.S. Capitol. Katie's winning entry titled, Liberty, will be hung in the U.S. Capitol for a year. Katie is a recent graduate of Ike Eisenhower High School in Yakima (Class of 2015) and will be a freshman at the University of Washington in the fall, where she plans to major in history.

The USDA designation allows farmers to be considered for eligibility for additional federal disaster assistance from the Farm Service Agency, including emergency loans.
