Wildfires and Forest Management
The catastrophic wildfires facing our region are, unfortunately, something we have come to expect during the dry, summer months, and I am committed to working with local officials to ensure we have the resources we need to prepare, prevent, and recover when the time comes.
I have seen firsthand how our communities have worked together to help one another during these natural disasters. Firefighters from across the U.S. have joined the fight and volunteers from all over the state and country provide support and relief to displaced residents. These men and women put their lives on the line to protect our homes, businesses, and communities throughout wildfire season.
I introduced the Fair Pay for Federal Firefighters Act to deliver on my promise to our Central Washington heroes by enacting a short-term solution to prevent the United States Department of Agriculture from enacting scheduled pay cuts for our federal firefighters due to a lack of funds.
I have also been working diligently to ensure our farmers are not devastated by these disasters, which is why I introduced legislation to require the Federal Crop Insurance Corporation (FCIC) to carry out research and implement a crop insurance product that covers losses due to smoke exposure.
