WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Rep. Dan Newhouse (R-WA) sponsored Rep. Cathy McMorris Rodgers' (WA-05) Making Aid for Local Disasters Equal Now Act (MALDEN Act) to expedite the deployment of disaster assistance to rural communities impacted by a natural disaster. The bill is named after the town of Malden, Washington, which was devastated by the Babb Road Fire in 2020.

Dan Newhouse (R-WA) joined over 200 of his House colleagues in sending a letter to Small Business Administration (SBA) Administrator Isabel Guzman requesting an explanation for the months-long delay in the distribution of Shuttered Venue Operators Grant Emergency Relief Program (SVOG) funds which were allocated by Congress in December of 2020.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Reps. Dan Newhouse (R-WA) and Ann Kirkpatrick (D-AZ) reintroduced the Local Journalism Sustainability Act, a bill that helps preserve community journalistic endeavors throughout the United States.

Small newspapers around the country were already facing financial hardships prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, which have only worsened over the last year. The Local Journalism Sustainability Act seeks to provide a pathway to financial viability for these publications through a series of three tax credits.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Rep. Dan Newhouse (R-WA) released the following statement after the Biden Administration's recent budget proposal to Congress for Fiscal Year 2022 eliminated Payment in Lieu of Taxes (PILT) funding for communities surrounding the Hanford Site. Under President Biden's budget, other cleanup sites across the nation – except the Hanford Site in Central Washington and the Savannah River Site in South Carolina – would continue to receive Department of Energy (DOE) PILT funding.

Steve Womack (R-AR) in introducing the Flag Desecration Amendment, which amends the U.S. Constitution to restore Congress' authority to prohibit the desecration of the United States flag. The reintroduction of the legislation coincides with Flag Day, which commemorates the adoption of the U.S. flag by the Continental Congress on June 14, 1777.
