WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Rep. Dan Newhouse (R-WA) released the following statement after attending the Oval Office signing ceremony during which President Trump signed a bipartisan legislative package, S. 47, the John D. Dingell, Jr. Conservation, Management, and Recreation Act, into law. S. 47 included a provision to withdraw 340,000 acres in the Methow Valley from consideration for mining. The legislation passed the House last night in a vote of 363 to 62, and the Senate approved it on February 27.

Dan Newhouse (R-WA) released the following statement after U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS) announced that FWS will soon propose a rule to delist the gray wolf in the lower 48 states and return management of the species back to the states and tribes. FWS intends to publish the proposed rule in the Federal Register in the coming days, opening a public comment period on the proposal.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, the entire Washington state congressional delegation joined together to ask United States Trade Representative (USTR) Robert Lighthizer to work with Japan to resolve technical issues and remove barriers to allow Washington state apples access to Japanese markets.

The letter, led by Senator Maria Cantwell (D-WA) and Representative Dan Newhouse (R-WA-4), specifically calls out Japan's overly restrictive policies that have effectively blocked Washington apple growers from shipping apples to Japan for decades.
