YAKIMA – Today, Rep. Dan Newhouse (R-WA) recognized Yakima resident and West Valley High School senior, Joe Jacob "JJ" Doria, with a Congressional Award Silver Medal. The ceremony took place at West Valley High School. The Congressional Award is the highest award for youth presented by the United States Congress.

The Corps Network Congressional Champion Award is presented on an annual basis to members of the United States Congress for their leadership on behalf of national service, public lands access, conservation, veterans, and other issue important to the work of America's Service and Conservation Corps.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Representatives Derek Kilmer (D-WA) and Dan Newhouse (R-WA) reintroduced legislation to force the Veterans Health Administration (VHA) to move forward on fixes to its mismanagement issues. Their bill, the VA Management Alignment Act of 2017, would direct the head of the VA to issue a report to Congress detailing the steps they will take to reorganize and effectively improve veterans' access to quality care.

The bill clarifies and enhances coverage under The Bill Emerson Good Samaritan Food Donation Act (Emerson Act) which promotes food donation by protecting food donors and food recovery organizations.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Rep. Dan Newhouse (R-WA) introduced H.R. 875, Bureau of Reclamation Water Project Streamlining Act of 2017 to streamline the Bureau of Reclamation's environmental planning and study process for new water projects. The bill would apply the same streamlined water project development process used by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers under the Water Resources Reform Development Act of 2014 to the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation in order to facilitate the construction of new dams and reservoirs. H.R. 848 reaffirms and clarifies Congress' intent regarding the inappropriateness of subjecting agricultural operation nutrient management activities under the Resources Conservation and Recovery Act of 1976 (RCRA).

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Rep. Dan Newhouse (R-WA joined a bipartisan group of members to cosponsor legislation to protect undocumented young people brought to the United States as children. Rep. Newhouse cosponsored H.R. 496, the Bar Removal of Individuals who Dream and Grow our Economy (BRIDGE) Act, which would provide temporary relief from deportation and provide work authorization to undocumented youth.

Dan Newhouse (R-WA) released the following statement on voting today to support passage of H.R. 7, the No Taxpayer Funding for Abortion and Abortion Insurance Full Disclosure Act of 2017, which Rep. Newhouse cosponsored. H.R. 7 would make the Hyde Amendment, a longstanding prohibition on taxpayer funding for abortions through government programs, permanent and apply government-wide.
