WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Representatives Dan Newhouse (R-WA) and Derek Kilmer (D-WA) introduced legislation to force the Veterans Health Administration (VHA) to move forward on fixes to its mismanagement issues. Their bill, the VA Management Alignment Act of 2016, would direct the head of the VA to issue a report to Congress detailing the steps they will take to reorganize and effectively improve veterans’ access to quality care.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Reps. Dan Newhouse (R-WA), Paul Gosar (R-AZ), and House Natural Resources Committee Chairman Rob Bishop (R-UT) led 13 Members on a letter to House appropriators, with jurisdiction over federally-owned and operated dams, in support of retaining language to ensure the dams continued operation in any appropriations legislation considered in the final days of the 114th Congress.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – On the eve of a meeting between Pacific Maritime Association (PMA) and the International Longshore and Warehouse Union (ILWU), Reps. Dave Reichert (R-WA), Dan Newhouse (R-WA) and Kurt Schrader (D-OR) led a letter urging both parties to continue discussing an extension of their current contract covering operations at the 29 West Coast container ports. Although the current contract does not expire until 2019, the last time the contract expired in 2014 there was no resolution until 2015.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Rep. Dan Newhouse (R-WA), released the following statement after the amended complaint was filed to the Washington State Public Disclosure Commission regarding violations related to the “What’s Upstream” campaign in Washington state:

“I encourage this complaint to be acted upon swiftly in order to determine all the facts on the improper and illegal use of taxpayer funds for the anti-farmer ‘What’s Upstream’ campaign. Those found responsible for any illegal activity should be held accountable to the law.”

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today the U.S. House of Representatives passed an amendment introduced by Representatives Dan Newhouse (R-WA) and Denny Heck (D-WA) that transfers the prehistoric human remains of the Kennewick Man to a coalition of Columbia Basin tribes. The amendment, also cosponsored by Congressman Derek Kilmer (D-WA) and Congressman Greg Walden (R-OR), was adopted as part of H.R. 5303, the Water Resources Development Act of 2016, which was passed on a vote of 399 to 25. The amendment text is similar to legislation previously introduced by Rep. Heck, H.R.
