WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Pacific Northwest Reps. Cathy McMorris Rodgers (WA-05), Dan Newhouse (WA-04), Jaime Herrera Beutler (WA-03), Kurt Schrader (OR-05), and Greg Walden (OR-02) introduced bipartisan legislation to approve the Federal Columbia River Power System (FCRPS) Biological Opinion (BiOp) until 2022. This legislation will work to support the FCRPS and the benefit it brings to our region through the clean, renewable, and affordable energy it provides while allowing salmon to recover at record rates.


Like many Americans, I have been very concerned about the reports of scandals and incidents of mistreatment of our veterans by the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) in recent years. I have heard stories firsthand from veterans in Central Washington about their negative experiences at VA facilities and their frustrations with the bureaucratic process. From secret wait lists for appointments and poor hospital conditions to the over-prescription of opioids, these practices have led to the abuse, and even deaths, of veterans across the country.

Collin Peterson (D-MN) led 35 other Members to introduce H.R. 3034, a bipartisan resolution recognizing the legacy of Justin Smith Morrill, the founder of the land-grant university system, by posthumously awarding him the Congressional Gold Medal.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Reps. Dan Newhouse (R-WA) and Kurt Schrader (D-OR) were joined today by Reps. Cathy McMorris Rodgers (R-WA), Peter DeFazio (D-OR), Greg Walden (R-OR), Jaime Herrera Beutler (R-WA), and Dave Reichert (R-WA) in a bipartisan letter urging President Trump to commence negotiations with Canada over the Columbia River Treaty (CRT) as soon as possible.


Last Wednesday, I was getting ready for a morning meeting in the nation's capital when I saw the terrible news that an individual had attacked the members of the GOP congressional baseball team while they practiced in a neighborhood field.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Rep. Dan Newhouse (R-WA) today released the following statement after the Secretary of the Army provided the report to Congress on the acquisition of the McNary Shoreline in Central Washington.

"There is still work to do to ensure a transfer is done properly, with all necessary information and documentation on the land in question," said Rep. Newhouse. "The release of this report, as required by law, is a positive and necessary step forward for the possible re-conveyance of this property and ensuring broad community support."

WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Representatives Dan Newhouse (R-WA) and Chris Collins (R-NY), today wrote to U.S. Department of Agriculture Secretary Sonny Perdue requesting the Animal and Plant Health Inspection Services (APHIS) conduct a full disease and pest management risk analysis (PRA) for apples imported from Poland, which has not previously met phytosanitary requirements for U.S. market access.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Rep. Dan Newhouse (R-WA) announced that six students across Central Washington have received appointments to attend U.S. military academies and military academy preparatory schools. The appointments followed Rep. Newhouse's nominations for each appointee. The honor of attending a service academy comes with the obligation and commitment to serve in the military for a minimum of five years upon graduation. Rep. Newhouse called each appointee to offer congratulations.
