WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Representatives Dan Newhouse (R-WA), Derek Kilmer (D-WA), and Dave Reichert (R-WA) introduced a bipartisan bill to expand key disaster assistance to rural communities in Washington state and across the country. The Individual Assistance Improvement Act of 2015 would increase opportunities to access the Federal Emergency Management Agency's (FEMA) Individual Assistance Program.

(Washington, D.C.) – Today, Sens. Patty Murray and Maria Cantwell, and Reps. Jim McDermott, Adam Smith, Rick Larsen, Cathy McMorris Rodgers, Dave Reichert, Jaime Herrera Beutler, Suzan DelBene, Derek Kilmer, Denny Heck, and Dan Newhouse sent a letter to Secretary of Transportation Anthony Foxx, urging the Department of Transportation to quickly approve emergency relief funding to repair heavy damage to roadways in Washington state from storms occurring November 30 through December 8.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, U.S. Representative Dan Newhouse (R-WA), released the following statement after the House approved H.R. 158, the Visa Waiver Improvement and Terrorist Travel Prevention Act of 2015. Rep. Newhouse cosponsored the bill to enhance security screening for participants in the Visa Waiver Program. This program was created in 1986 and allows nationals from 38 participating countries to travel to the U.S. for up to 90 days for business or tourism without obtaining a U.S. visa, as long as they present a valid passport.

"The President's address tonight was disappointing. The horrific attacks in Paris and San Bernardino clearly show that radical Islamic terrorism is a growing threat at home and abroad. President Obama has the authority he needs to destroy ISIS, but tonight he simply doubled down on current efforts that have failed to even contain it.

Since the 2008 financial crisis, the Federal Reserve has engaged in interventionist policies that have resulted in today’s sluggish recovery and public uncertainty regarding the Fed’s decision-making.

The world was horrified by the cowardly terror attacks in Paris that killed numerous innocent people and left many wounded at entertainment venues and restaurants, in what many now regard as France’s “September 11th.” France is the United States’ oldest ally—the first nation to support our fight for independence. As France has been there when we have faced challenges, we must now be there for the French people. While we mourn together now, we must also unite and stand against global terrorism. Sadly, the incidents of terrorism only continue to grow.
