I hope that everyone was able to spend quality time this past weekend with family and loved ones, but in the midst of the barbeques and gatherings, I hope we all took the time to reflect on the true meaning of Memorial Day. This is a time to honor those who have fallen in battle and to recognize the high price paid for our freedom.

As many of you know, Central Washington is one of the most productive agricultural regions in the world. From Sunnyside to Okanogan, our hardworking producers provide the food for our nation, and the world.

In recent years, violent crime rates have surged, hostility towards public safety officers has skyrocketed, and wildfires continue to rage. Despite their unwavering dedication, our first responders feel under supported and unappreciated, which is why this First Responder Month, it is more important than ever for us to give them the recognition they deserve.

America’s university campuses have recently seen a disturbing rise in antisemitism and support of known terror group, Hamas. Since the horrific attacks on Israel that occurred on October 7, 2023, protests against our ally Israel have flooded the media. Free speech should always be protected, however the antisemitic violence we have seen on campuses is not a form of protected speech.
